One of our biggest collaborative successes recently was the design and installation of the culvert at the Ridgeline development in Bethany. This element allowed for road connection between phases of development while maintaining the wildlife corridor and stream connectivity. The difference in elevation between the creek and the road connection, coupled with sharp valley walls, created a need for an innovative solution. PCD worked closely with representatives from Taylor Morrison to identify collaborative partners for this project. Matthew Houser from Contech, Geotechnical Engineers from NV5, and Structural Engineers from Vista Engineering helped to implement the largest stream crossing that PCD has designed. The culvert itself is made from Contech’s BridgeCor® product with cement footings running the entire length. Careful observation by PCD Construction Inspection staff and NV5 allowed for safe construction of the structure, which had to be pre-assembled adjacent to the site and connected with tools specially developed for this project. We are always excited to implement new solutions in our design and look forward to future opportunities to maintain connectivity in streams, roads, and collaborative relationships.
