At PCD, we are lucky to have Elizabeth Herrera, Associate Civil designer, and Erik Graham, UAV Pilot and Specialist, share their artistic talent in their redesign of our lobby. From a distance, the PCD logo is visible in its entirety, but when approached, sculptures and trinkets will show off the team’s vision of PCD’s identity. In keeping with the guiding principle of community, Elizabeth is incorporating hard hats, monument caps, and other physical representations donated by team members to represent PCD’s culture in the design of the project. When asked about how her love and education in art applies to her work as a Civil Designer, she said “PCD has a community focus in both Planning and Engineering; a focus on the people who will live in the spaces we design, and that is what I am able to bring to our workspace at PCD.” We are excited to see the finished results of all their hard work.

 

Long time Senior Civil Engineer Pete Arellano has finally achieved his goal of retirement, officially cleaning out his desk on New Year’s Eve. Pete played a major part in most of our projects during his 8 years at PCD. He spearheaded coordination with Tualatin Valley Water District, Willamette Water Supply System Commission, the City of Tigard, and Washington County to integrate their new 66’’ transmission line through River Terrace. He worked with Clean Water Services to analyze current and future sanitary system loading on the west side of Bull Mountain to help the district project future pump stations to support River Terrace and River Terrace 2.0. He coordinated efforts with agencies responsible for designing and installing major utility backbones supporting the River Terrace Community. He also fulfilled PCD’s municipal contract to update the City of Tigard’s engineering design standards and construction details. In the words of PCD President Patrick Espinosa, “Pete was an engineer’s engineer; a master at solving the seemingly unsolvable.” Closing the chapter on an incredibly successful engineering career, Pete is looking forward to spending time with his wife and children, and traveling and biking around the country.
